Nobody was paying attention to the signs. Trail still says closed and is still closed. This is a remarkable double falls and well worth the trip. Surprised that only a few people were there. I like the simplicity of the photo as the image has no true subject; just capturing the smooth flow of the water is what I was after. Rather, the view is from a distance looking slightly down and I would be hard pressed to find a unique shot of the waterfall. I encourage you to explore Oregon and make your own outdoor adventure. But unlike Latourell Falls, the cliffs seemed to have a less pronounced columnar appearance. We met quite a few other hikers on the trail, but not so many it felt crowded, and it was great we could take our dog on this one. Mostly shaded hike. I would not put any pressure on them! I took a few photographs of the falls and then continued shortly up the trail to where the trail ends. It's definitely worth the very short patches of barely steep inclines. Elowah Falls is the first waterfall along the trail and is the better one for photography; since the trail takes you right up to the fall’s large punchbowl and the area is wide open to explore and find the perfect vantage point to shoot from. Great easy hike with some wonderful views. If you do choose to go over the fence please be as careful as possible not to disturb the work in progress and keep to the uphill side of the trail. Tried to go yesterday, 8/8/20. Once you get to the top, the views of the gorge are spectacular and a beautiful waterfall awaits! Just after exiting the highway, turn left and take a frontage road for 2 miles to John B. Yeon State Park. Some of the pipes that form a fence at the trail with the shear drop off have corroded and fallen off. Helpful . Along the hike you’ll see scorch marks on the lower portions of the trees, but the canopy remains intact and the underbrush has regrown. Getting down there are some muddy spots so be careful! Note that sometimes on dry summer days, only one falls may be flowing. The hike to Elowah falls he's definitely worth it and there is a swimming hole for the brave. It begins just west of Wahkeena Falls viewing platform, south of the Historic Columbia River Highway. In visiting both falls, my roundtrip hiking distance was 3 miles with some parts of the trail fairly steep, yet overall, it was a very comfortable hike and one that I will remember for its beauty. Be careful as this State Park is just a few parking spaces right alongside the road and there are numerous car break-ins in this area. Tried to take the pup here today but it’s all gated off!
